MULTICULTURALISM EVERYWHERE
MULTICULTURALISM EVERYWHERE
Second class reviewed
This class was headed to multiculturalism and all the aspects that may surround this subject. We started the class by mentioning the minorities that came to our minds at that very moment, in order to connect with the subject.
We talked about diversity and how is it reflected in our moderns and past societies, also we could talk about the ideas that postcolonialism gave us concerning Identity, culture, minority, rights, and diversity.
- Multiculturalism: Multiculturalism is the subject of multiple geographical interpretations. It is first identified as a way of describing the very condition of diversity evident through various spatial formations. In particular, multiculturalism refers to the existence of difference and uneven power relations among populations in terms of racial, ethnic, religious, geographical distinctions and other cultural markers that deviate from dominant, often racialized, “norms.”
- Descriptive Multiculturalism: A descriptive multicultural phenomenological framework. Descriptive multicultural phenomenology is a science for uncovering and understanding cultural phenomena as they appear in the consciousness of culturally diverse students.
- Normative Multiculturalism: Normative multiculturalism refers to individuals’ perceptions about the extent to which interactions between culturally diverse groups, multicultural policies and practices, and diversity-valuing ideologies are common or normative in one’s society.
- Identity: Identity encompasses the memories, experiences, relationships, and values that create one’s sense of self. This amalgamation creates a steady sense of who one is over time, even as new facets are developed and incorporated into one's identity.
- Culture: Culture is the characteristics and knowledge of a particular group of people, encompassing language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music, and arts.
